Cancer Awareness and Screening Camp at Assam Co-operative Jute Mills Ltd:

A Step Towards Healthier Communities

On 21st and 22nd February 2025, Assam Co-operative Jute Mills Ltd, in partnership with North East Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (NECHRI),Jorabat, Assam have successfully organized a Cancer Awareness and Screening Camp in Silghat, Assam. The initiative, dedicated to promoting health awareness and early cancer detection, was a major step in raising awareness about the importance of regular screenings and preventative care.

Focus on Oral Cavity Screening

The two-day camp primarily focused on “Oral Cavity Screening”, an essential aspect of cancer detection. Oral cancer, often overlooked, can be life-threatening if detected late. With the help of this initiative, workers from the Jute Mills were able to access screenings that might otherwise be difficult to come by, especially in rural areas. Early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes, and this event aimed to provide that crucial support to the community.

Expert Guidance from Renowned Specialists

The camp saw an excellent turnout from the workers at Assam Co-operative Jute Mills, who were eager to take part in the screenings and gain knowledge about cancer prevention. The attendees had the unique opportunity to receive guidance from some of the finest medical professionals in the region. Dr. Munindra Narayan Baruah, MD & Head of the Research Department at NECHRI, led the discussions, sharing valuable insights on cancer prevention and the importance of avoiding tobacco and alcohol in daily life.

In addition to Dr. Baruah, Dr. Gaurav Kale and Dr. Anup Das from NECHRI were present to provide expert consultations and ensure the smooth running of the screenings. Their involvement in the camp helped ensure that workers received accurate information and professional care throughout the process.

A Collaborative Effort for Community Health

The success of the Cancer Awareness and Screening Camp would not have been possible without the coordination and dedication of the medical and nursing staff. The nurses and staff from NECHRI worked tirelessly to manage the event, ensuring that every participant was well taken care of, from registration to screening.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the staff and healthcare professionals who contributed to this initiative. Their teamwork and dedication played a pivotal role in making this event a success.

Raising Awareness and Fighting Cancer Together This initiative is just one example of how proactive steps towards cancer awareness and screening can help save lives. By organizing such camps, Assam Co-operative Jute Mills Ltd, along with NECHRI, is playing an essential role in empowering workers and their families with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed health decisions.

Together, we are making strides towards a healthier future. Events like this not only educate people about cancer but also encourage them to take responsibility for their own health and seek early medical intervention when necessary. By spreading awareness and offering screenings, we are taking the first steps in the fight against cancer.

The collaboration between Assam Co-operative Jute Mills Ltd and NECHRI stands as a shining example of community healthcare initiatives. It is our hope that this will inspire similar efforts across the region, bringing attention to the importance of regular health check-ups and screenings.
